Great to see a little piece in this month’s Caterer & Hotelkeeper Magazine on David Punter (headshot taken by me) who has recently joined Optim Group as Director of Sales & Marketing.

The Director, Bridget Birrane (top row centre), at Optim Group commissioned me to do some professional headshots as well as a team photo, which I did at their London office at The Hop Exchange. Traditionally a central hub for London’s brewing industry and now wonderfully restored by Optim’s parent company, Peer Group Plc, The Hop Exchange is well worth a visit and perhaps even a place to host your own event?

David and I then took a little stroll around Borough Market to do some more relaxed editorial style pictures, which was great fun. These are my favourites below; I especially love the shot in front of the barber shop window!

……..what a treat to the eyes, tastebuds and tummy! A beautiful spread of English food, a delightful London secret garden, refreshing pimms and a sunny evening (rare during a week of rainy downpours) to boot. The ‘Secret Garden’, at The Montague on The Gardens Hotel, Bloomsbury, will is open from this month until September 7th. Available for afternoon tea, a glass of pimms or an evening barbecue. Just visit http://www.montaguehotel.com/dining/secret-garden for more info on how to book. I don’t think I’ve laughed quite so much whilst shooting, as I did this last month working for Coca-Cola Enterprises. The concept, themed along their “Move the The Beat” track, created for Coca-Cola by Mark Ronson as part of their involvement with The Olympics 2012, was “Move to the Alphabeat”. Staff had to create letters of the alphabet - making shapes with their bodies, which would then be entered into a competition to get staff in the mood for 2012.

By the end of several days of these events, I had become an expert at creating shapes of the alphabet and also proved that a few years of yoga practise really does come in handy. As for the staff of Coca-Cola Enterprises – I think they had a really good giggle too, with many a strange shape being pulled. A good laugh was had by all, the staff at Coca-Cola Enteprises were really game for a laugh and I loved working with Sarah Murray, internal communucations manager and her colleagues with the organisation of the events. Now if there was an Olympic event entitled ”human letter shaping”, I think we might have found a winner…..!

A few fun shapes for you to see, written out in a fun message, can you read it?

…..if you like your drinks to be served at ground level, Altitude 360 may not be the bar for you……with stunning views across London, and a panorama to impress any lover of urban-scapes, this is definitely a place to enjoy a fabulous view from a great height.

The hotcatUK event, sponsored by bitbuzz was timed brilliantly on a gorgeously sunny London day, kicking off an hour before sun-set. So not only did the lucky guests at hotcatUK’s event last Thursday enjoy a 360 degree view of London in the sunshine; they got sunset, dusk and the twinkling lights of the river at night to boot.  A great place to enjoy a fabulous London view with friends and colleagues.

So my most recent vintage shoot, featuring the gorgeous Emma Presland, went really well and I shall be popping them onto the vintage section of my website soon. But in the meantime I just wanted to post a few of the pictures up and also share the shots before the vintage effect was applied………..(pre-effect on the left).

Emma did her own hair and make-up and the two outfits she’s wearing are real vintage finds from the Forties. The shoot took place at her home, and the shadows are on purpose, intended to replicate the Film Noir effect that forties photos tended to have, imitating the cinematic trend at the time. The fashion during the forties varied from practical and almost military style clothing for women, (see Emma’s Blue Suit below) to a little bit more colour and flair as women glammed up and made the most of themselves in a huge effort to keep standards up despite the war and times of austerity surrounding them.

Unfortunately due to the Blitz and rationing most of the clothing from that era has now disappeared from Britain and you really do need to go to The States to find any of the decent stuff left. Luckily for us, we have people like Emma who’ve done their searching and rummaging in vintage shops and online to bring some fashion history back to us – and because Emma is a talented seamstress and costume designer by trade, she’s able to apply her talents to some of the outfits in giving them new life too.

Thank you Emma for allowing me to photograph you and talk me through some of your fabulous outfits, I only wish we’d had more opportunity to photograph the entire wardrobe…….to see more about Emma’s costume design, visit her Facebook Page.

these are Susannah Fields Photography conference photos.

The Annual Hotel General Managers’ Conference at the London Hilton Hotel, Park Lane.

Some fun shots from a shoot for Creativevents Ltd, a company that provides catering services to lots of major event spaces such as Earl’s Court, Excel London, Winter Wonderland and so on.

They wanted the shots to be fun and light-hearted to represent their brand and the energy of the young team.

It’s not the easiest getting staff to hold up giant pieces of white card and pose willingly for the camera, but luckily no-one took themselves too seriously and I was able to coax some fun expressions out of the team.
